Year In Review: “The 12 Months of Christmas and a Happy New Year!”

Happy New Year! I am so glad Christmas isn’t over in 12 days. In fact I would like to see the hope of Christmas happen for 12 months out of the year! We have had a great year of seeing the mighty hand of God move in this place. I was reflecting this week with my walking buddy Judy Newberry who serves as our Administrative Council Chairperson about where we have seen God move all year. There are more things that I can recount, but here are the top “12 Months of Christmas” from last year that I am grateful for:

On the first month of Christmas our True Love gave to us – One new Gathering Place!

On the second month of Christmas our True Love gave to us – Two churches in a Super Bowl Race!

On the third month of Christmas our True Love gave to us – Three on the Walk to Emmaus!

On the fourth month of Christmas our True Love gave to us – Four prayer groups in a Lay Witness Mission!

On the fifth month of Christmas our True Love gave to us – Five graduates and scholarship distributions!

On the sixth month of Christmas our True Love gave to us – Sixty children in our 1st drama camp!

On the seventh month of Christmas our True love gave to us – Seven workers in the Annex House revamp!

On the eighth month of Christmas our True love gave to us – Eight new church members!

On the ninth month of Christmas our True love gave to us – A 9/11 service in September!

On the tenth month of Christmas our True love gave to us – Ten walk for hunger!

On the eleventh month of Christmas our True love gave to us – Eleven churches get a Kenya Well Fund raised

On the twelfth month of Christmas our True love gave to us – Twelve kids sing in the Christmas play!

As I was reading Luke chapter 2 during the holidays, it struck me that Christmas isn’t over after Jesus was born. It is only the beginning of how God is with us! This passage describes how the shepherds seek out the newborn King. When Mary saw how these humble pilgrims fell down and worshiped Him, the scriptures tell that “she pondered these things in her heart.” (Luke 2:19)

On January 21, 2017 we will all be “pondering” what all this means for us at Mt. Carmel. We have set apart a very important leadership planning retreat at the church from 9am-12pm. The retreat will be held in the New Disciple Classroom. All church officers and leaders are especially encouraged to attend; however the vision meeting is open to all of our active members and attenders. Along with setting some ministry priorities for 2017, we will be setting the church calendar. So we hope all of you will be listening to God in prayer for the direction we should go and bringing your best ideas to this planning meeting.

Like Mary, the mother of Jesus, my heart is also full. I am so grateful to be on this journey to look back and give thanks at what the Lord has done for us in 2016. But also to look forward with excitement at what God is going to do through us in 2017! May the light of Christ shine brightly at Mt. Carmel this year!

Happy New Year!!
