From The Pastor’s Desk: “GRADUATE ON TO GREATER THINGS!”
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12)
Graduation season is upon us. For our family, we are celebrating once again our daughter Jordan graduating with her Master’s Degree in Nutrition from Appalachian State. Jordan graduated two years ago with her Bachelor’s Degree from the same university. We are so grateful for the love and support you gave her through the scholarship fund that encouraged her along the way. She loved ASU so much she decided to keep on going and spend a total of 6 years there (1/4 of her life) to complete both of her degrees in Nutrition. Many other parents at Mt. Carmel have already seen their children pass through those doors, and some of you are looking forward to seeing your child’s education come to completion.
But does our education ever come to completion? As Christians, do we ever “graduate” from being a disciple of Jesus Christ? The short answer is “no,” at least, not in this life. Jesus commanded His disciples to keep learning and to keep growing in our Christian walk. This is so important because our God wants us to master the power and authority of His Holy Spirit at work in our lives… so we can be at work in the lives of others. So what are you doing to grow in your knowledge and wisdom of God? If you aren’t already in a Sunday School class, Bible Study, Prayer Group, or small group, I want to encourage you to get in one. If there are no groups that feel right to you, you might consider starting a small group of your own. It only takes two or three Christian friends to create a powerful prayer group.
God wants to see you graduate on to greater things! There will be a final graduation for all of us someday. As I look out upon the beautiful graveyard at Mt. Carmel, I see some beautiful members of Christ’s graduating class. Oh, but would we be as faithful as many of those saints buried there! All of us will leave this world and stand before our Master and Lord Jesus Christ to answer one last exam question: “What have you done with what I gave you?” What will your answer be? Today is a new day. It is still not too late to prepare for your graduation day!
Following Jesus All The Way,
