OTHER EVENTS

The Finance Committee is promoting a Pledge Campaign for the Building Fund on Sunday, May 11th in an attempt to pay off the indebtedness ($ 53,000) on the new parsonage by year-end 2009. Letters will be mailed this week. The Finance Committee will speak briefly about this Building Fund Campaign today.

We will Recognize our 2008 High School & College Graduates on Sunday, May 18th

A Retirement Celebration will be held for Dr. Hurley Thomas on Friday, May 30th at 6:00 pm at Maple Springs UMC. R.S.V.P. by May 16th. Cost $15 per person. Reservation forms are available in the church office.

The General Conference of the United Methodist Church has been meeting in Fort Worth, Texas this past week. Some lay and clergy delegates from the Winston-Salem District make up part of our delegation from the Western NC Conference.
General Conference represents all Conferences in our denomination, and meets once every four years. Changes to our denominations “Book of Discipline” may only take place by vote at General Conference.

Confirmation II Class for adults lead by Pastor Joe. Confirmation II will review:
1) What do Methodists believe?; 2) What is our Methodist history?;3) How is the Methodist Church structured today? Today at 6:30 pm in Discipleship classroom.

Council on Ministries meets Sunday May 4  at 4:00 pm in the parlor.
Administrative Board meets Sunday May 4 at 5:00 pm in the Gathering Place.
Trustees meet Monday, May 5th at 7:00 pm in the Gathering Place.
Staff-Parish Committee meets Sunday, May 18th at 6:00 pm.
Finance Committee meets Sunday, May 18th at 7:00 pm.

The Bell Choir’s rehearsals for May will be Wed. May 7th & 21st at 6 pm. We will accept new players at anytime! Talk with Joanne Spetz for more information.

UMYF to hear Andy Lambert Sunday May 4 at 6 pm at Mt. Tabor UMC.

Sarah Hunter Sunday School class “Bake Sale” is Sunday May 4 before and after Worship.

A “Gathering of the Laity” will be held Aug 15-17th. Reservation forms in office.

Register soon for Summer Day Camp which begins June 16th through August 8th from 7:15 am-5:15 pm Monday - Friday. Cost is $125 /week and $105 for members of Mt. Carmel. Registration fee is $25. Call the church office to register.

Our next Wednesday Night Fellowship Dinner will be May 14th at 6:00 pm. The menu will be country style steak with rice, cream potatoes, limas, dessert, coffee and tea. The cost is by donation. Sponsored by Roger and Wanda Gordon. The proceeds will go to the expenses of our December Fellowship Dinner.
Missions
Our Work Day at the Children’s Home is this Saturday, May 17th, begins 9:00 am. Bring a bag lunch, clippers and rake. Talk with Julie Fuquay for more information.

UMYF Carolina Cross Connections dates are: July 27th – August 2nd.

Mt. Carmel UMC provided supper for families in the Green St. area last Wednesday.
Over 50 persons “in need” were fed by our “Missions Committee”.
